We do or take Vrat to purify our mind and our body! It is an important ritual in our Hinduism! It keeps our mind and body clean, it builds discipline and it is deeply linked with divine energies. There are various kinds of fasts, each has special spiritual importance, among them 6 are very significant. They are :

1. Ekadashi Vrat

It is observed twice a month. It is related to Lord Vishnu! It is designed to detoxify the body and purify the mind.

Benefits:

Improves concentration and boosts mental clarity.
Reduces negative (tamasic and rajasic) tendencies.
It helps us with the healing process and reduces our stress.
Strengthens devotion and spiritual discipline.
It destroys negative karma and attracts divine blessings for a peaceful life.

2. Shravan Somvar Vrat

We keep this fast especially on Monday! The first Monday of the Month Shravan/ Shavan. It is related to Lord Shiva and very auspicious!

It fulfills our wishes, especially related to marriage.
Offers protection from diseases, obstacles, and fears.

In particular, women follow this fast to bring stability and peace into their families.

3. Karwa Chauth Vrat

We keep this vrat to pray for the husband's long life and well-being. Married women do fast (avoiding food and water) from day to night!

We do this fast on the Navratri days! This nine night festival is dedicated to Maa Durga (Shakti). It is one of the most powerful spiritual times of the year.

Benefits

Removes negative energies and protects the devotee from obstacles.
Purifies the body and helps regulate digestion.
Devotees pray for blessings of prosperity, fortitude, and success from the Divine Mother.

 5.Fast for Satyanarayana

This fast is observed in honor of Lord Satyanarayana (Lord Vishnu) every month, typically on Purnima (full moon), to remove obstacles and invoke prosperity.

Benefits

Ensures work, projects, or endeavors will be completed with ease. Invokes blessings for health, wealth, and happiness.
Esteemed as one of the strongest fasts for bringing abundance and positive life energy into the home.

6. Pradosh Vrat

It is observed on Troyodashi Tithi, every month! This is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed to wash away sins and open new pathways for growth.

Benefits:

Freedom from financial, emotional, and physical problems.
Improved luck, opportunities, and prosperity.
Helps overcome negativity, fear, and karmic obstacles.
Scriptures state that devotees who observe Pradosh Vrat receive special blessings from Mahadev.

Why is Fasting Important Spiritually?

While each vrat can have its own unique benefits, the main aim of fasting essentially does not change: to purify the body; to cultivate self-discipline and self-control; to cultivate devotion.
It reduces negative thoughts and helps the mind focus on God.
