Devshayani Ekadashi takes place on the eleventh day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashada. It is also referred to as Maha Ekadashi, Ashadi Ekadashi, Toli Ekadashi, Padma Ekadashi, Devpodhi Ekadashi, and Hari Sayana Ekadasi. On this day, Maharashtra's annual Padharpur Yatra, or sacred pilgrimage to the Pandharpur temple, concludes. In the south, this is known as Toli Ekadashi. According to Vaishnavite Mutt tradition, prisoners wear hot seals on their body known as Tapta Mudra Dharana. On this day, Lord Vishnu is said to retire to the Ksheer Sagar (milky ocean). As a result, this day is regarded as fruitful for worshipping Lord Vishnu and Mata Mahalakshmi.
Yoga-Nidra, or the Lord's deep sleep, lasts four months.

History of Devshayani Ekadashi

Lord Brahma told Sage Narada the account of Devshayani Ekadashi. King Mandhata presided over an extremely rich and affluent kingdom. His people were quite pleased with their ruler. His kingdom once suffered from a famine. Rainfall was scarce for three years. People were suffering from disease and hunger. King Mandata couldn't figure out his blunder. As a result, he embarked on a long trip to find a solution to the Empire's problems. He met various religious men, but none of them could give him a remedy. He continued on his search to find the solution. On his route, he encountered Sage Angira, who instructed the ruler to worship Lord Vishnu on Devshayani Ekadashi and fast according to the rules and regulations. Mandhata returned to his realm and celebrated Devshayani Ekadashi. On the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, a big crowd adhered to severe fasting and puja protocols. Soon, the Kingdom regained its lost lustre, and the rains returned, bringing happiness and prosperity. Lord Vishnu bestows peace, pleasure, and prosperity on those who observe the Devshayani Ekadashi. Devotees are free from the cycle of birth and death. These devotees achieve salvation, or Moksha.
