Vrat Katha of Maghi Purnima

According to folktales, Dhaneshwar, a poor Brahman, resided in the village of Kantika with his wife. Dhaneshwar wanted alms to make ends meet. Despite being married for many years, the couple never had children. People in the neighborhood teased and humiliated Dhaneshwar's wife for not having a kid. A Yogi urged Dhaneshwar and his wife to pray to Goddess Kali for 16 days straight. On the 16th day, the Goddess showed up and instructed them to light diyas and do vrat for 32 consecutive Purnima tithis. Following 32 Purnimas, Dhaneshwar's wife became pregnant and then gave birth to a baby boy named Devidas.When Devidas was sixteen, Dhaneshwar and his wife exiled him to reside in Kashi with his maternal uncle.

Devidas eventually married, despite his wishes. A few days later, the God of Death arrived to accompany Devidas, but he was unable to complete his task sinceDevidas' parents had observed the Purnima vrat.Devidas was saved because to their dedication. As a result, the Maghi Purnima vrat continues to be observed today.

Rituals and Pooja Rites for Magha Purnima

1.Take a holy bath as soon as you get up in the morning.

2. Using a wooden board, place an idol of Goddess Laxmi and Lord Vishnu in the form of Satyanarayan. 

3. Offer Tulsi Patra to Lord Vishnu and light a Diya. 

4. It is considered unfortunate to harvest basil leaves on any given day, therefore do not do it on Purnima. 

5. Based on the puja muhurat, Satyanarayan puja can be done in the late afternoon or early evening. 6. Offer the Lord bhog prasad of panchamrit and panjiri, along with a few bananas.

 7. Read the Satyanarayan Katha, Aarti, and other mantras. 

8. After completing all of the puja rites, the devotees are permitted to break their fast.
