Maa Sita Birth Story

Maa Sita's birth tale is the subject of numerous legends. In the Indian state of Bihar, the Sitamarhi district is a popular pilgrimage site where residents believe Maa Sita was born. Contrary to this, there is also a belief that Maa Sita was born in Province No. 2 in Nepal.
The first story comes from the Tamil translation of Valmiki's Ramayan and states that Maa Sita was discovered buried in a field's ploughed furrow, on Earth's lap. The mentioned place is Sitamarhi in the Mithila area, which is currently in the Indian state of Bihar. Because of this legend, Maa Sita is also known as the daughter of Goddess Earth, or Bhumi Devi. It is also claimed that King Janaka, the King of Mithila, and his wife Sunaina found and adopted Maa Sita.
A distinct version of the King Janaka story, which can be found in the Manjari translations of the Ramayana, claims that King Janaka once saw Menaka in the sky and signalled his want to have a kid. Menaka appeared in the sky afterwards when he saw the child, telling him that she had given birth and that King Janaka had to adopt her. It is also believed that Maa Sita was King Janaka's own daughter, which goes contrary to what the original Valmiki Ramayana claims.
Two reincarnation traditions exist about the birth of Sita Devi:
1. According to several Ramayana accounts, Ravana attempted to harass Vedavati when she was performing penance with the intention of becoming Lord Vishnu's wife, destroying her innocence and her chaste form. Vedavati cursed Ravana, saying that she would die in a flames and reincarnate at a later period as the reason for Ravana's demise. It is believed that Maa Sita was the reincarnation of Vandavati.┬а

2.The other Manivati story follows a similar path, with Ravana being held harmless for disrupting Manivati's strict lifestyle. She promised to repay Ravana for this, and thereafter she became Ravana's daughter. But according to his astrologers, his daughter would be the reason for his downfall. In an attempt to get rid of the reincarnated Manivati, Ravana buried her at Mithila. However, farmers discovered her there, and King Janaka later adopted her and named her as Sita.
