In a famous story, when there is a dispute regarding marriage between Lord Shiva's sons Ganesh ji and Kartikeya ji, then only two sons of Lord Shiva are mentioned. But do you know that Lord Shiva had seven sons. So let us know about the seven sons of Lord Shiva.

The seven sons of Mahadev are-
1. Kartikeya
2. Ganesha
3. Sukesh
4. Ayyappa
5. Jalandhar
6. Bhauma
7. Andhak

1. Kartikeya
Kartikeya, also known as Skanda, Subrahmanya, Shanmukh and Murugan. Kartikeya is known as the God of War in Hinduism as he was instrumental in defeating the demon Tarakasura. The marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati lasted for a long time, but they did not have any children. The gods were worried that without a son, Lord Shiva would not be able to defeat the demon Tarakasura. He started praying and penance to please Lord Shiva and Parvati. After many years, Lord Shiva and Parvati finally had a son, who was born from six different foetuses of six different Apsaras. These six foetuses were then placed in a river, where Goddess Ganga took care of them. Later, the six embryos merged into one, and Kartikeya was born.
Karthikeya ji is worshipped with different names like Murugan, Subrahmanya and Skanda in different regions of India. Kartikeya is revered for his beauty, power and divine qualities. He is married to Devasena and Valli.

2. Ganesha
Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom and knowledge, is known for his unique appearance with an elephant head and human body. Lord Ganesha is worshipped before doing any auspicious work. According to beliefs, Goddess Parvati created Ganesha with turmeric paste to protect herself while bathing. Parvati ji created a human figure with turmeric paste and breathed life into it, giving birth to a boy. She named him Vinayak and asked him to guard the main gates, when Lord Shiva returned, Vinayak stopped him, leading to a confrontation and Shiva beheaded Vinayak. Parvati became disheartened, but Shiva promised to bring her back to life. Nandi brought an elephant head, which Shiva placed on Vinayak’s body, bringing him back to life. The gods blessed Vinayak, accepted him as their son and named him "Ganesha" or "Ganapati".
3. Sukesh
According to Hindu scriptures, the name of the third son of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati was Sukesh. According to the Puranas, Sukesh was abandoned by his parents. Sukesh is the only demon who has the distinction of being the son of Mahadev and Mother Parvati.

4. Ayyappa
The birth history of Lord Ayyappa is a unique and revered story in Hindu scriptures. Ayyappa is considered to be the son of Lord Shiva and Mohini form of Lord Vishnu. Legend tells that Mohini, an incarnation of Vishnu, was impregnated by Shiva, leading to the birth of Ayyappa. King Rajasekhara adopted Ayyappa as his son. An important event in the life of Ayyappa occurred when he faced and defeated the demon Mahishi, thereby demonstrating his divine nature. This victory led the king to recognize his special abilities and divine origin, after which he decided to build a temple for him. Ayyappan is depicted as a celibate youth, a warrior deity, often depicted riding a Bengal tiger and holding a bow and arrow. The worship of Ayyappa involves rigorous religious practices, including a 41-day penance before visiting the temple at Sabarimala, the famous pilgrimage site in Kerala that is visited by millions of devotees every year.
5. Jalandhar
Shiva's son Jalandhar, also known as Chalantrana, was a demon in Hindu history; he was born from the anger emanating from the third eye of Lord Shiva. When Shiva opened his third eye in anger after being injured by Indra's thunderbolt, the energy emanating from his eye mixed with the ocean and took the form of a child.
Jalandhar was brought up by Varun and later by Shukracharya. Growing up, Jalandhar became a powerful demon who conquered all three worlds – heaven, earth and underworld. He married Vrinda, daughter of Kalanemi. Despite its strength, Jalandhara suffered death at the hands of its creator Shiva. This birth history of Jalandhar reflects his origins as a formidable figure in Hindu scriptures, marked by his rise to power and eventual fall due to divine intervention.
6. Bhauma
According to Hindu scriptures, the birth of Lord Shiva's son Bhauma is very interesting when a few drops of sweat from Lord Shiva's forehead fell on the earth, from these drops a beautiful child with four arms and red skin was born, who followed the earth- Nurtured. Bhauma's birth is unique because he was born directly from the earth, hence his name Bhauma. The story of their origin highlights the mysterious and divine nature of Lord Shiva's lineage, reflecting the deep connections between the gods and the elements of nature.

7. Andhak
According to Hindu scriptures, Andhak is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The name Andhak means "blind". Once while meditating on Mandar Mountain, Goddess Parvati closed the eyes of Lord Shiva with her hands. Due to which darkness spread in the world.
