मॉं कामाख्या का मंदिर प्रमुख शक्तिपीठ में से एक हैं और इसे प्रजापति दक्ष और शिव से संबंधित भी माना जाता हैं। यह मंदिर माता कामाख्या का हैं और यह ५१ शक्तिपीठ में से एक हैं। यह कई मंदिरों का समूह हैं। हर मंदिर १० शक्ति महाविघा को दर्शाती हैं। ये मंदिर तांत्रिको के अलावा सभी हिन्दू भक्तजनों का भी आकर्षण केंद्र हैं।  

इस मंदिर का निर्माण ८वीं सदी में हुआ है और इसका १७वीं सदी तक कई बार पुनर्निर्माण अहोम, कोच राजवंशी राजाओं द्वारा करवाया गया। भक्तजन यहाँ माता की मुर्ति के साथ उनकी योनि का पूजन करते हैं। एक बार की बात है सती माता अपने पिता के घर यज्ञ में भाग लेने के लिए गई थी परंतु वहॉं उनके पिता ने शिव जी का बहुत अपमान किया और वो सहन न कर पाई। पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार उन्होंने उसी हवनकुंड में अपने योगशक्ति से अपना देह त्याग दिया तो भगवान शिव उनको लेकर घूमने लगे उसके बाद भगवान विष्णु अपने चक्र से उनका देह काटते गए तो नीलांचल पहाड़ी में भगवती सती की योनि (गर्भ) गिर गई, और उस योनि (गर्भ) ने एक देवी का रूप धारण किया, जिसे मॉं कामाख्या कहा जाता है।

अंबुबाची मेला यहां का प्रसिद्ध त्योहार है, हर साल अंबुबाची मेले के दौरान पास में स्थित ब्रह्मपुत्र का पानी तीन दिनों तक लाल हो जाता है। पानी का यह लाल रंग देवी कामाख्या के मासिक धर्म के कारण होता है। फिर तीन दिन बाद यहां मंदिर में दर्शन के लिए भक्तों की भीड़ उमड़ती है।
मंदिर में भक्तों को बहुत ही अजीबोगरीब प्रसाद दिया जाता है। अन्य शक्तिपीठों के विपरीत, कामाख्या देवी मंदिर में लाल रंग का गीला कपड़ा प्रसाद के रूप में दिया जाता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब माता को तीन दिनों तक मासिक धर्म होता है, तो मंदिर के अंदर एक सफेद कपड़ा बिछाया जाता है। तीन दिन बाद जब मंदिर के कपाट खोले जाते हैं तो उस कपड़े को माता के राज से लाल रंग में भिगोया जाता है। इस कपड़े को अंबुवाची कपड़ा कहा जाता है। इसे भक्तों को प्रसाद के रूप में दिया जाता है।

Kanya Sankranti marks the beginning of the sixth month in Hindu Solar Calendar. For Kanya Sankranti sixteen Ghatis after the Sankranti moment are considered Shubh or auspicious and the time window from Sankranti to sixteen Ghati after Sankranti is taken for all Dan-Punya activities.

Gowri Habba is a Hindu festivals dedicated to Goddess Gowri an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. It is a significant festival in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and it is observed a day before Ganesh Chaturthi.

Goddess Gowri, a very fair complexion incarnation of Goddess Parvati, is worshipped on the day of Gowri Habba and women observe Swarna Gowri Vratha to seek blessings of Goddess Gowri for happy life

Hartalika Teej is known by this name due to the legend associated with it. Hartalika word is combination of Harat and Aalika which means abduction and female friend respectively. According to the legend of Hartalika Teej, the friend of Goddess Parvati took her to the thick forest so that her father can not marry her to Lord Vishnu against her wish.

On Samaveda Upakarma day, Brahmins ritually change their Upanayana thread along with Shrauta rituals. Upakarma which is a Vedic ritual is still practiced by Hindus of Brahmin caste.

Upakarma is known as Avani Avittam in Tamil Nadu. The next day of Avani Avittam is known as Gayathiri Japam.
