History:
According to legends, the temple is related to Gopala Bhatta Goswami. After the disappearance of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Gopala Bhatta Goswami was feeling lonely therefore he decided to go to Nepal. In Nepal, one morning, Gopala Bhatta Goswami was taking a bath in the river Kali-Gandaki. When he dipped kamandal (a pot) in the river to fill the water he was surprised to see 12 Shaligram Shilas in his pot. He thought it was a coincidence and dropped the Shilas back into the river but when he refilled the pot the Shilas re-entered. He realised that it is not a coincidence but a gift from Lord Krishna. Hence he kept them in his bag and went back to Vrindavan.
He then started worshipping the Shailgrams. He always had the wish to serve the Lord in his deity form so that he could decorate him with garments and ornaments. In addition to this, one day a wealthy man visited Vrindavan and offered Gopala Bhatta Goswami some fine ornaments and beautiful clothes for the idol. Gopala Bhatta Goswami could not decorate the Shilas and hence denied the offering but the man was determined and refused to take the offerings back. The next day when Gopala Bhatta Goswami uncovered the Shilas he saw the deity of Lord Krishna playing the flute. Now there were only eleven Shilas and one self-manifested deity of the Lord. In this way, Lord Krishna fulfilled the wish of his devotee and emerged in the form of Radha Raman.

According to ancient sources, a stove has been burning in the temple kitchen since the time of the temple's establishment i.e. 500 years ago.
