Navagraha Stotram is a text consisting of nine mantras for the nine planets. It is believed that the changes in human life are due to these nine planets. Navagriha Stotra is written by Maharishi Vyas. It is said that reciting Navagraha Stotra daily with faith, devotion and concentration provides relief from troubles and difficulties in life. The nine planets included in Navagraha are Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Inside the stotram there is a special mantra for each planet, which is chanted individually or collectively to receive planetary blessings and reduce the negative effects of the planetary positions in one's horoscope. Navagraha Stotram is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and self-improvement, and is often recited during planetary transits or times of personal difficulty.

 Navgraha Stotra in Sanskrit with English translation and meaning

Surya Mantra

Sanskrit- जपाकुसुम संकाशं काश्यपेयं महदद्युतिम् I
तमोरिंसर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोSस्मि दिवाकरम् II १ II
English- Japaa kusuma Sankasam – Kashyapeyam Mahaath’ yuthim
Thamo’urim sarva Paapa ganam – Pranathosmi Divakaram
Meaning - I bow down to Surya, the one who resembles a hibiscus flower, the Son of Kashyapa, radiant, the enemy of darkness, and the remover of all sins.

Chandra Mantra

Sanskrit- दधिशंखतुषाराभं क्षीरोदार्णव संभवम् I
नमामि शशिनं सोमं शंभोर्मुकुट भूषणम् II २ II
English- Dhadhi sanka Thushaaraabham – Ksheero Dhaarnava Sambhavam
Namaami sasinam Somam – Sambhor makuta Bhooshanam
Meaning- I bow down to Chandra, the one with the colour of curd and icebergs, the one who appears from the milky ocean, the Chandra who adorns Shiva. 

Mangal Mantra

Sanskrit- धरणीगर्भ संभूतं विद्युत्कांति समप्रभम् I
कुमारं शक्तिहस्तं तं मंगलं प्रणाम्यहम् II ३ II
English- Dharanee garbha Sambhootham – Vidhyuth kanti Samaprabham
Kumaaram Sakthi Hasthancha – Mangalam Pranamaam Yaham
Meaning- I offer my respects to Angaraka, the son of Bhooma Devi, the auspicious one, the one with the lustre of lightning, and the one holding Shakti in his hand. 

Budh Mantra

Sanskrit- प्रियंगुकलिकाश्यामं रुपेणाप्रतिमं बुधम् I
सौम्यं सौम्यगुणोपेतं तं बुधं प्रणमाम्यहम् II ४ II
English- Piryangu kali Kaasyaamam – Roope’naa Prathamam Budham
Sowmyam sowmya Gunopetham – Tham Buddham Pranamamyaham
Meaning- The one with intelligence and unmatched beauty, the one dark as the bud of the Priyangu flower, And I bow down to that Buddha, the son of Chandra, the One who is tranquil.

Brihaspati Mantra

Sanskrit- देवानांच ऋषीनांच गुरुं कांचन सन्निभम् I
बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम् II ५ II
English- Devanancha Rushinancha – Gurum Kanchan sannibham
Budhdhi bhootham Thrilokesam – Thannamaami Bhruhaspathim
Meaning- I bow down to Brihaspathi, the Lord of the three dimensions, the source of knowledge and wisdom for the Devas and Rishis, and the bright and wise one.

Sukra Mantra

Sanskrit- हिमकुंद मृणालाभं दैत्यानां परमं गुरुम् I
सर्वशास्त्र प्रवक्तारं भार्गवं प्रणमाम्यहम् II ६ II
English- Hima kundha Mrinalabham – Dhaithyaanam Paramam Gurum
Sarva shastra Pravruththaaram – Bhargava Pranamamyaham
Meaning- I prostrate that (Bhargava) Sukracharya, the High Priest of Asuras, the one who preaches the Shastras, and the one who possesses the brilliance of dew, lotus stem, and thumba flower.

Shani Mantra

Sanskrit- नीलांजन समाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम् I
छायामार्तंड संभूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् II ७ II
English- Neelanchana Samabhasam – Raviputram Yamagrajam
Chaya Maarthaanda Sambhootham – Thannamaami Sanaicharam
Meaning- I bow down to that Saneeswara, the blue one, the one like charcoal, the son of Surya and the brother of Yama, the one born of Chaya and Surya. 

Rahu Mantra

Sanskrit- अर्धकायं महावीर्यं चंद्रादित्य विमर्दनम् I
सिंहिकागर्भसंभूतं तं राहुं प्रणमाम्यहम् II ८ II
English- Ardha kaayam mahaveeram – Chandra Aditya vimarshanam
Simhikaagarba Sambhootham – Tam Raahum Pranamamyaham
Meaning- I offer my humble respects to Rahu, the half-body hero, the fearless opponent of Chandra and Surya, and the child born of Simhika's womb.

Ketu Mantra

Sanskrit- पलाशपुष्पसंकाशं तारकाग्रह मस्तकम् I
रौद्रंरौद्रात्मकं घोरं तं केतुं प्रणमाम्यहम् II ९ II
English- Palaasa pushpa sankasham – Thaaraka Graha mahakam
Rowdhram rowdhraathmakam goram – Tham Ketchum Pranamamyaham.
Meaning- I bow down to Ketu, the one who resembles a Palasa flower, the ruler of the stars, the one with a ferocious form that is menacing and furious.

Sanskrit- इति श्रीव्यासमुखोग्दीतम् यः पठेत् सुसमाहितः I
दिवा वा यदि वा रात्रौ विघ्न शांतिर्भविष्यति II १० II
English- Iti Vyasa-mukhed-gitam yah: pathet-samahita:
Divaa vaa yadi vaa raatrau vighna-shantir-bhavishyati
Meaning- Shri Vyaasa Rishi wrote this stotra. Chanting this stotra at any time of day or night will set one free from all problems.

Sanskrit- नरनारी नृपाणांच भवेत् दुःस्वप्ननाशनम् I
ऐश्वर्यमतुलं तेषां आरोग्यं पुष्टिवर्धनम् II ११ II
English- Nara-naarii-nrupaan’aayn cha bhaved-duh:svapna-naashanam
Aishvaryamatulam tesh’aam aarogyam push’t’i-vardanam
Meaning- The impact of negative nightmares about men, women, monarchs, and other entities will be eliminated by reciting this stotra. Everyone will be wealthy, energetic, and in good health.

Sanskrit- ग्रहनक्षत्रजाः पीडास्तस्कराग्निसमुभ्दवाः I
ता सर्वाःप्रशमं यान्ति व्यासोब्रुते न संशयः II १२ II
English- Grah-nakshatra jaa piid’aah: taskaraagni-samudbhavaah:
Taah: sarvaah: prashamanam yanti Vaso brute
Meaning- Chanting this stotra releases a person from the problems brought about by robbers, fire, planets, constellations, etc. Vyasa Rishi asserts that the outcome of reciting this stotra is certain.

Sanskrit- II इति श्रीव्यास विरचितम् आदित्यादी नवग्रह स्तोत्रं संपूर्णं II
English- Iti Shri Vyaasa-virachitam Navagraha-stotram sampoornam
Meaning- This is the whole version of the Navagraha stotra written by Shri Vyasa Rishi

Importance of Navagraha Stotra

The nine celestial bodies known as the Navagrahas in Hindu astrology are honoured in the Navagraha Stotra, a prayer. Because it invokes protection and blessings from these celestial creatures, which are thought to have an impact on human existence, it is considered to be extremely significant in Hinduism. It is believed that reciting the stotra can alleviate the negative impacts of planetary positions and promote peace, prosperity, and general well-being in an individual's life. People who are confronting astrological difficulties or who are looking for direction and blessings from the cosmic forces symbolised by the Navagrahas frequently recite it.

How many times does Navagraha Stotra be chanted?

According to legends, the Navagraha Stotra can be chanted 108 times in a day. The regular Navagraha stotra can be chanted once a day or once each evening, with specific mantras for each planet as many times as required. The Guru Beej Mantra within the Navagraha Mantras should be chanted 19,000 times within a period of 40 days to get the best results. It is important to consider personal preferences, beliefs and time availability while deciding the frequency of chanting the Navagraha Stotra.

When and how to read Navagraha Stotra ?

1. Recite on specific days and times for best results.
2. It is considered good to fast while reciting on a particular day. It is not mandatory to fast every day, but it is considered advisable to restrict certain foods that stimulate the mind.
3. Offer flowers, lamps or clothes to the nine planets as per your capacity.
4. After performing the puja, share the prasad offered to the Navagrahas with others.
5. Make sure to look at the presiding deity while reciting for positive results.
6. Keep away impure thoughts during the puja to ensure successful avoidance.
7. Avoid sexual thoughts while worshipping the Navagrahas.
8. Worship the Navagrahas only after worshipping other deities.
9. Do not rotate the Navagrahas in the opposite direction, especially for Rahu and Ketu.
10. While worshipping, avoid standing in exactly the opposite direction to Lord Shani.
