Siddhivinayak Temple, Siddhatek: A Divine Pilgrimage to Fulfilment

Ashtavinayaka, or eight Ganeshas, can be spotted in Maharashtra state. The Ashtavinayaka yatra, or pilgrimage, visits the eight sacred shrines of Ganesh. All eight Ashtavinayak Temples are Swayambhu (self-originated) or Jagrut.

History of Siddhivinayak temple, Siddhatek

Siddhatek is thought to be the location where Vishnu finally gained siddhi and defeated the demons Madhu and Kaitabha, whom he had been battling for a thousand years. Long ago, Deity Brahma dreamed of creating Nature, and he sang the mantra "OM" nonstop. Ganesha was pleased with the penance and granted him the benefit of fulfilling his goal to create Nature.

When Deity Brahma was creating Nature, Vishnu fell asleep. Demons Madhu and Kaitabh emerged from Vishnu’s ears. They started harassing all the Gods and Goddesses. Deity Brahma realised that only Vishnu will be able to annihilate these demons. Vishnu tried his very best to kill them, but failed. He then stopped the battle and took the form of Gaankushal Gandharva and began singing. Shiva, when he heard the celestial notes of the Gandharva, summoned him. Vishnu then told Lord Shiva about his unfinished battle. Shiva told him that since he had not sought the blessings of Ganesh his task had remained unfinished. Shiva asked Vishnu to recite the Shadakshar mantra (Ganeshaya Namah) and in order to achieve what he wanted.

Vishnu chose Siddha Kshetra to perform the Ganesh-propitiation ceremony. Ganesh granted him his request. Vishnu then built a four-door temple on the mound and put a statue of Gajanan. Since Vishnu attained siddhi here, Ganesh was dubbed the Siddhivinayak, and the location was known as Siddhatek or Siddha Kshetra. Ganesh's boon provided Deity Brahma with the energy to build Nature. Lord Ganesh accepted Lord Brahma's two daughters as his spouses. Vishnu's temple eventually perished. It is said that a shepherd spotted Ganesh here and began worshipping him.

He then sought a priest to lead the service, and the current temple was built sometime during the Peshwas' reign. 

About Shri Siddhivinayak, Siddhatek

The Siddhivinayak Temple is located beside the Bhima River, which flows south. One amazing feature of the river is that, regardless of how fast it flows, it makes no sound. Shri Siddhivinayak Siddhatek is a secluded village on the Bhima River in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district and Karjat tehsil. The Siddhivinayak of Siddhatek is regarded as a particularly powerful divinity. There are tiny temples dedicated to other gods nearby, including Shiva, Goddess Shitala, and Vishnu. On both sides of the deity, enormous statues of Jay and Vijay surround it.

The temple is located on a hillside and faces north. The temple's sanctuary, or garbhagriha, is five feet high and 10 feet long. The threshold of the sanctum is fashioned of brass. Swayambhu, the deity of this temple, is three feet tall and two and a half feet wide, facing north. The deity's trunk is turned to the right. A Ganapati with its trunk twisted to the right is thought to represent the destroyer form of Ganapati.

How to reach Siddhivinayak temple, Siddhatek?

By road
Exit the Pune-Solapur Highway. 48 kilometres from Srigonda and 19 kilometres from Daund.

By Train
Boribyal is the nearest railway station on the Pune-Solapur line. The temple stands around eleven kilometres from this station, across the Bhima River. Regular State Transport buses operate from the station. One might alternatively get off at Daund and take the bus.
