Diwali is a celebration that holds special significance. It celebrates the victory of light over darkness. It reminds us that good always overcomes evil. The lights indicate that they are happy to welcome Lord Rama home. It is time for a new start. Diwali is a time to bring joy and hope to those around us.
Mythological Stories Behind Diwali
Diwali has a long history. The most famous tale is about Lord Rama. He was a prince who was banished from his home for 14 years. During this time, Ravana, the evil demon king, kidnapped his wife Sita. Lord Rama engaged in an epic battle with Ravana and ultimately defeated him. After winning the war, Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana returned home. The people of Ayodhya, their kingdom, were overjoyed. To express their excitement, they lit up the entire city with little clay lamps called diyas. This is why we light diyas on Diwali.
Another story focuses on the goddess Lakshmi. On this day, it is said that Goddess Lakshmi, the bringer of wealth and good fortune, came from the ocean. People clean their homes and light up to welcome her home. They believe she visits homes that are clean and well-lit.
There is also a story about Lord Krishna. He fought an evil leader named Narakasura, a demon. He freed thousands of people from his prison. The victory of Lord Krishna is also recalled during Diwali. Diwali celebrates these various stories of good winning over evil.┬а
