The unbreakable bond of love between Radha and Krishna has the highest value in devotion. Although their divine union is regularly celebrated through art, poetry and devotion, many do not know there was an actual holy wedding that joined them eternally and that Lord Brahma actually conducted this celestial marriage at Bhandirvan (located near Mawat) on the tithi of Phulera Dooj (Shukla Paksha Dwitia) during the Phalgun month, according to ancient texts, such as the Garga Samhita and the Brahma Vaivarta Purana. Due to its religious significance, Phulera Dooj has also become a favourable time for performing Hindu marriages.

The Celestial Marriage at Bhandirvan
The тАШGarga SamhitaтАЩ and the тАШBrahma Vaivarta PuranaтАЩ (specifically the тАШKrishna Janma KhandaтАЩ) both describe this holy miracle. It happened in Bhandirvan, one of the twelve forests of Braj (Vrindavan), when young Krishna was taking care of the cows with Nanda Baba. Just then, an enormous storm developed, bringing on heavy rains, which made Nanda Baba fearful, so he told Krishna to stop the storm. Krishna did so at once, and when he did, Radha appeared before them. When Shri Radha pulled Shri Krishna from Nanda Baba's lap through a wonderful sequence of events, Krishna became a handsome young man of the same height as Shri Radha.
When Lord Brahma witnessed this wonderful miracle, he immediately descended to the earth and humbly approached Shri Radha and Shri Krishna and asked them to allow him to be their wedding officiator. He performed the wedding ceremony in accordance with the Vedic way, with the consent of both Radha and Krishna. Once the wedding was concluded, Lord Brahma departed, and Krishna underwent a second divine transformation back into an infant once again. This cosmic event represents the eternal bond of love between the divine consorts and is considered one of the most profound spiritual secrets.
Phuleri Dooj 2026: Date and Time
The Dwitiya Tithi begins on February 18, 2026, at 4:57 PM and concludes on February 19, 2026, at 3:58 PM. Because the Dwitiya Tithi occurs at sunrise on February 19, 2026, the Phulera Dooj fast and festival will take place on that day.
Scriptural Significance of Phulera Dooj
The Phalgun monthly observance of Phulera Dooj each year primarily commemorates the union of Radha and Krishna. This day is considered ideal for weddings in Hinduism because it is ruled out as an Abujh Muharat (not auspicious according to astrological purposes). The marriage occurring at Bhandirvan is seen as highly religious, therefore Phulera Dooj is considered sacred for marriage as opposed to other dates wishing to marry, which require very complicated astrological calculations. Still, the devotees gather at Bhandirvan to conduct radha-Krishna marriage ceremonies throughout the year, however, Phulera Dooj provides the greatest religious significance for these rituals.
Bhandir Bihari Temple and the Sacred Murti
A visit to Bhandirvan wouldn't be complete without encountering the Bhandir Bihari Temple, home to the remarkable murti, which depicts Shri Radha-Krishna as a testament to His union with Radha and their divine marriage. The murti depicts the bridegroom filling his bride's hair parting (mangalsutra) with sindoor (vermilion), a symbol of the realization of their divine, earthly bond. The unique idol of Radha and Krishna in their wedding dress shows Krishna on his tip toes to be tall enough to place the sindoor on Radha's forehead; he was only a toddler at their wedding. The temple is a tangible manifestation of this celestial marital bond between God and His devotees; where all who have faith and devotion are united in their eternal love for God.┬а
Believers all over the world have faith that the marriage of Radha and Krishna at Bhandirvan is reality, not fiction.
Timeless Spiritual Legacy
By virtue of this event, the celestial transactions of love, devotion, and service will continue inspiring researchers, poets, and followers in their quests for knowledge and creativity.
As far as the eternal nature of Radha and Krishna's bond goes, the eternal union of these two deities represents an eternal love that continues to transcend time, as shown by the continuing tradition of Phulera Dooj marriages.
As Bhandirvan approaches, so too do many people return there to celebrate this immortal connection between Radha and Krishna through the mystical and divine experience of love.
