If you're planning to construct something, you need to know when the best moment to start, what to do during the ceremony, and Vastu guidelines to ensure the structure is durable and brings good luck.
What Is Bhoomi Pujan?
Bhoomi Pujan is a Vedic ceremony performed before the construction or laying of a foundation. It involves offering prayers to the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and sky). We also honour Vastu Purush, the God of Directions. This ceremony helps to eliminate negative energy from the land. It also gives blessings of good health and pleasure.

Rituals Done During Bhoomi Pujan
The first step is to choose a suitable location for the Bhoomi Pujan Vidhi. After a bath, the holy area must be washed and sprinkled with Gangajal.
For the actual rituals, the priest will sit facing north, while the host (the head of the family) will face east.
You must begin the ritual by invoking Lord Ganpati. Your priest will assist you in seeking blessings and praying for the removal of any difficulties that may delay the success of your project.
Next, pray to a silver snake and a 'Kalash', which is a pot filled with water and covered with mango or betel leaves and a coconut. This 'Kalash' portrays the goddess Lakshmi, who will bring wealth to your home.
The silver snake, which represents Lord Vishnu's Sheshnag, is invoked to pray for the house's protection.
During the prayers, various offerings are made, including milk, curd, ghee, betel nuts, coins, and so on.
Invoking the Bhoomi Devi is the next crucial stage in the Bhoomi Pujan Vidhi. The Bhoomi Poojan for a new residence is accompanied by Vastu Purusha worship. This is to remove negativity and evil from the place. During these ceremonies, you must also participate in 'Sankalpa', 'Shatkarma', 'Pran pratishtha', and 'Manglik dravya sthapana'. At this stage, 'Panchabhutas' are also worshipped.
Other rituals that follow include 'Balidana' (special offerings), 'Hala karshana' (ground levelling), 'Ankura ropana' (sowing seeds), and 'Shilanyas' (placing foundation stones).
Shilanyas, or Shila sthapana, is the ritual of laying the foundation stone. Typically, four bricks are set at a location as required by Vastu Shastra guidelines.
In some areas, five limes are crushed and placed at the plot's four corners and centre.
