Ghatasthapana Shubh Muhurta 2025
Ghatasthapana, also known as Kalash Sthapana, marks the beginning of Navratri. It's an essential ritual. It ensures Maa Durga's arrival and guarantees her presence for the next nine days.
Date: September 22, 2025 (Monday)
Morning Muhurta: 6:09 AM to 8:06 AM.
Abhijit Muhurta: 11:49 AM to 12:38 PM (alternative)
Devotees are instructed not to conduct Ghatasthapana during Rahu Kaal.
Saradiya Navratri 9 Day Significance
Every different day is dedicated to a different avatar of Maa Durga.
Day 1: This avatar is known as Maa Shailputri (mountain daughter) . She encourages us to start our spiritual journeys with a solid foundation of devotion and faith.
Day 2: Maa Brahmacharani is another avatar. She teaches us the value of discipline and commitment through her story and how it will benefit our own personal objectives.
Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta is another avatar. On her forehead is a half-moon. She is a symbol of bravery and a fearless soul. She asks us to be courageous as we confront evil and negativity both within and outside of ourselves.
Day 4: This avatar's name is Maa Kushmanda. It is said that Maa Kushmanda created the universe with her wonderful smile. She represents the universe's creative energy. This day encourages us to find joy and happiness in our lives, as well as to use our creativity to make the world a better place.
Day 5: This avatar's name is Maa Skandamata. She is Lord Skanda's (Kartik) mother. She conveys the loving and protective nature of a mother. The message here is about compassion, love, and the powerful strength that comes from protecting people we care about.
Day 6: This avatar's name is Maa Katyayani. She is the goddess's warrior form, destined to drive out darkness. Maa Katyayani teaches us that we must speak up against wrongdoing and stand for what is right.
Day 7: This avatar is called Maa Kaalratri. She is the goddess's most powerful avatar, capable of destroying all darkness and foolishness. She shows us that in order to truly be free, we must confront our fears and let go of our inner demons.
Day 8: This avatar's name is Maa Mahagauri. She represents purity, calm, and tranquillity. Her story teaches us that after a war, there is always a fresh start filled with hope and calm.
Day 9: The name of this avatar is Maa Siddhidatri. She is the person who grants all requests and spiritual powers. She is at the highest level of our spiritual path. This day shows us that with sincere dedication and hard work, we can achieve our goals.
On Days 8 and 9, the important Sandhi Puja is performed at the intersection of the eighth and ninth days. In 2025, Sandhi Puja will take place on Monday, September 30, between 5:42 PM and 6:30 PM.
Special Significance of Navratri 2025
Navratri is of 9 days, but this year it will last 10 days.
This year, Maa Durga will arrive on elephant back.
The Sandhi Puja is also very significant during the shift from Ashtami to Navami.
Performing Sandhi Puja during this time is said to be similar to worshipping all nine forms of Maa Durga together.
Rituals and Traditions
Ghatasthapana is very important. It is the process where a pandit takes a kalash and fills it with water, grains and coconut, signalling the start of the puja.

Many devotees observe fasting, both nirjala or phalahar.
On Ashtami or Navami, young girls (kanyas) are worshipped as forms of the Goddess. It is also known as Kumari puja
