Hanuman Garhi Temple History

The temple was constructed by Safdarjung and Shuja-ud-daulah using revenue land allocations. However, Diwan Tikait Rai oversaw the building of the temple in 1799 CE, during Asaf-ud-daulah's rule. The temple of Hanuman Garhi is situated close to Ram Janmabhoomi. The Awadh Nawab gave land revenue in 1855 so that the temple could be constructed. According to historian Sarvepalli Gopal, the conflict in 1855 concerned the Hanuman Garhi temple rather than the Ayodhya temple.

Hanuman Garhi Temple Architecture

Hanuman Garhi is a cave temple. There are roughly 76 stairs to climb in order to get here. The six-inch-tall Lord Hanuman deity that is situated here is constantly covered in floral garlands. This temple structure has circular bastions at each of its four corners. A statue of Mother Anjani and young Hanuman, with Hanuman curled up in his mother Anjani's lap like a baby, is located within the temple grounds. The highest structure in Ayodhya is located in Hanumangarhi and is visible from all directions. This massive temple covers approximately 52 bighas together with its residential complex.

Lord Hanuman remains present all the time in the temple

There are different beliefs regarding this temple. It is believed that Hanuman ji is present here all the time. Apart from this, it is said that if any devotee offers a laal chola to Lord Hanuman, they will get rid of all their problems.

Hanuman Garhi should be visited first

It is believed that before coming to Ayodhya, one should have a darshan of Bajrangbali who lived in Hanuman Garhi. This is because when Shri Ram had given this temple to Hanuman ji, he had said that whenever devotees come to Ayodhya, they should worship Lord Hanuman first. Then only the darshan of Lord Rama will be completed.

Timing of Hanuman Garhi Temple in Ayodhya

Aarti takes place at 1:30 pm. After this, the doors open for the devotees at 2:00 pm. After this, devotees take the darshan of Pawanputra Bajrangbali till 11:00 pm.

Hanuman Garhi Mandir Bomb Story

An unusual event

Shri Hanuman Garhi Temple Ayodhya Ji Temple. An unspecified day in the year 1998.
A small monkey was chewing two electrical wires in his mouth like they were fruits to him by sitting near the cold water machine installed in the temple premises. Every devotee and every visitor was said to leave the temple. Only the police force and the bomb disposal squad were present inside the Hanuman Garhi temple at that time, and all of them were suspiciously watching that little monkey who was chewing the electric wire.

The reason behind the evacuation of the temple

The reason behind the temple being completely empty and the bomb disposal squad along with the police presence in the temple is stated by one of the eyewitnesses over there. Let’s know the true story in the words of them.

Why was the incident not showcased by the media?

He was telling the incident in brief because this true incident that happened in 1998 has not been showcased in any newspaper or news channel till now due to the extremely sensitive situations in Ayodhya.

How do they get to know about bombs?

In the year 1998, the STF i.e. Special Police Squad of Uttar Pradesh got the news of about twenty kilos of RDX coming to Ayodhya, out of which most of the RDX was seized in time due to the promptness of the police and no explosion took place in Ayodhya.

How did the bomb reach the Hanuman Garhi temple?

A terrorist disguised as a bomb disposal squad entered the oldest Hanuman Garhi temple of Ayodhya set a timer and planted a bomb in the cold water dispenser there. By the time the police caught him while running outside and started interrogating him, there was only one minute left for the bomb to explode in the temple, as the terrorist himself had said.

Searching for a time bomb has started

Immediately the entire police force led by Inspector Avinash Mishra entered the temple and started searching for the time bomb. Every corner of the temple and every corridor was searched but no one could see anything like a bomb, then everyone saw a small monkey was sitting near the cold water machine in the courtyard of the temple, holding two strings in his hands and playing with them and chewing them in his mouth, as if he were biting something.

The machine was in suspect

The police suspected that a bomb might have been fitted in this machine, so they threw bananas towards the monkey to free it from its mouth. And as soon as the bananas were thrown towards the monkey, he left the wire and went away without taking any bananas or should I say, he disappeared. Immediately the bomb disposal squad was called there and as soon as the machine was opened, a bomb with a timer set was found in it.

A Miracle happened

The bomb disposal squad reported that - “Sir, this bomb has been defused! Look, the timer has stopped at 3 seconds!" "That little monkey has stopped the bomb from exploding by cutting the wire!"
And within some time, the entire police force saw the same small monkey on the peak of Hanuman Garhi temple, who was caressing the Kalash of the peak.

A miraculous monkey

Now, the question arises: Was it a small monkey or was the great devotee Shri Hanuman Ji Maharaj saying something to the world? Surely it was Hanuman Baba or his messenger and he was telling the whole world with the blow of his sting that Awadh is my Lord. It belongs to Shri Ram and whenever there is a crisis, a monkey will come and protect it.
He will not let any harm come to his Lord's most beloved city!”
