Kalimath Temple

Kalimath Mandir, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas and holds immense significance in Tantra and Shakta traditions. It is believed to be the place where Goddess Kali disappeared into the earth after slaying the demon Raktabija. Unlike most temples, the idol of Maa Kali is not worshipped in the open; instead, her presence is revered in a sacred underground chamber that opens only once a year on Kalratri during Navratri. This adds to the mystical aura of the temple and makes it a center for deep spiritual practices.
