Mahalaya Amavasya on 2nd Oct, is one of the most powerful days in the Hindu Calendar. It marks the end of pitru paksha and the beginning of devi paksha. On this day, it is believed that goddess durga descends to earth, marking the start of durga puja preparations, especially in Bengal.

In this unique ashtakoniya temple, maa kali is depicted seated on a snake, without the presence of lord shiva in her idol. She is believed to ward off evil and remove all negativity from her devotees’ lives.
